TIPS ON CONFIGURING OFF WITH :
ATI GRAPHICS
NVIDIA GRAPHICS
IMPORTANT If you ever
update your graphic card drivers with new
ones, then before you fly, launch OFFManager,
"Workshop", run "Graphics Config", this will
launch CFS3Config and allow OFF/CFS3 engine
to create a correct configoverrides.xml
again. Also you'd likely need to setup
your slider settings in there again and
anything else you setup (screen resolution
etc as per the FAQ top).
This also happens with
vanilla CFS3 too, you would have to run
cfs3config.exe after a driver update.
ATI GRAPHICS
CFS3 has traditionally not ran as
well on ATI cards. Many people have found settings that have helped
here are some suggestions from posters on our forum and others.
Your mileage may vary and some settings you may need to
change but this has worked well for some people:
(See above
for how to access CFS3Config to apply these settings)
So from Workshop, click CFS3config to run it, go to
- File -
Custom settings - click on
Window menu at the
top, then Overrides
These options, among many more are there:
FOR ATI Only, (NVidia users should skip this
section and move to the next section 4) -no need for any of these tweaks)
"In the overrides section clear the tick in the 'Dual Pass Render' box and
tick the 'High Resolution Z-buffer' box immediately below it. Also tick the
following:
Disable Write-Only Vertex Buffers
Disable Write-Only Index Buffers
Disable Terrain Texture Ring Blend
(possibly/test)
Disable Vertex Buffers
Disable Index Buffers
To disable messages such as whether you've hit
your enemy and warnings such as 'Stall' tick the boxes for Disable Chat,
Disable Advisor Messages and Disable Simulation Warnings.
Now click on 'Window' at the top of the page
again and this time click on 'Texture Info' and set the following:
Composite Terrain Texture Pool - set to
Managed
Composite Terrain Texture Usage - set to
Rendertarget
Composite Aircraft Texture Pool - set to
Managed
Composite Aircraft Texture Usage - set to
Rendertarget
Vertex Buffer Pool - set to Managed
Index Buffer Pool - leave as is - should be
set to Default
Fullscreen Swap Effect - set to Flip
Now click on the 'Save' button at the bottom
of the screen.
Next click on 'File' and choose 'Exit' - do
not use the X close button as this will lose the settings you have just
made.
Hopefully you will see some improvement with
these settings.
From within your \OBDSoftware\CFSWW1 Over
Flanders Fields\ folder (that's the default install folder anyway)
open the 'Default' folder and then open the file 'cfs3.xml'. You may need to
use notepad (if you save double check it does not save it as "cfs3.xml.txt"
make sure it is "cfs3.xml" only) . Look for MaxFPS="0"
and change the value from '0' to something like '30'. This will help to
smooth out the stutters too." You can always try increase this
figure later (conservatively /gradually :) ) if your system now works well.
If you still have problems try the following:
In the ATI Catalyst Control
Center 3D Settings (right click on ATI icon) set:
OpenGL Setting Triple Buffering - ON (check mark)
(should not be necessary as CFS3 is
Direct3D but here as it was noted as set)
Wait for Vertical Refresh (Vsync) - Always On
(try set to off too if issues still)
Mipmap Detail Level - Performance
Anti-Aliasing & Anisotropic Filtering - Application
Managed (AA off in OFF)
In OFF config:
Maximize Resolution (e.g. 1600x1200x32, but
basically set it to whatever your monitor's normal max resolutions is)
FINALLY, for
some people with ATI, one small change that
possibly made a difference -
Disable on screen messages in game such as whether you've hit your enemy and
warnings such as 'Stall' etc. In CFS3config, in Custom, Window tick
the boxes for
Disable Chat, Disable Advisor Messages and Disable Simulation Warnings.
Exit using FILE, EXIT.
If all else fails, set
Scenery Slider to "1."
if that runs well try 2 etc.
You can always ask for tips in our forum (see link at
top of main page).

I've been playing around with the settings today
and it's running really smoothly now.
- From the Workshops BH&H Config program I
set the res to 1680x1050 32bit color with the max 8x antialiasing. (Set this to your monitors
max resolution (check what it does first!))
- In Nvida I set Anisotropic filtering to 2x
Antialiasing to "over ride" and 8xQ
setting
Texture filtering anisotropic - ON
Texture filtering - "quality"
Texture filtering LOD Bias - "allow"
Tripple buffering "On"
Vertical Sync
"force on"
The last two settings I'm still experimenting
with.. I also set the config program parameter editor "Texture Info"
page "Full Screen Swap Effect" radio button to the VSYNC choice.
- In the Workshops BH&H config program I set all
settings as in the FAQ
and for the Image quality page I used: Aircraft-5, Terrain &
Scenery-3, Effects & Clouds-4
I'm getting fps averaging around 40 and as high as
60 with very little stuttering.
BHH is really fantastic.. can't believe the improvements in all areas!
Another thing I did that I now know makes a huge difference was turning
off a lot of the background running tasks. I use a program called
"The Ultimate Trouble Shooter" (click here)
which makes it easy and explains each task.
My system is mid/high and I haven't tried over clocking yet. Parky
helped me pick it out about a year and a half ago. The MSI MOB went bad
and I recently replaced it with the Gigabyte.
Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3R ATX LG775 MOB
Intel core 2 duo E6600 2.4ghz
Patriot Extreme 2gb DDR2 800 SDRAM
Antec Trio TP3-650w ATX12v PS
EVGA PCIEx GeForce 8800gts 320mb
SB Audigy 2ZS
Windows XP Pro SP3
2x WD Sata HD 3gb 16mb cache
SATA DVD/CD R/RW

Anti-Aliasing Setting: x4
Anti-Aliasing Transparency: Off
Conformant Texture Clamp: Use hardware
Error Reporting: Off
